Actively looking for a research position in sociology with a focus on migration/diaspora/refugee studies or in some NonGovernmental organizations.
- PhD with distinction (magna cum laude) from the department of International Development Studies (IEE) at Ruhr University of Bochum, Germany.
- More than five years of experience in development studies focusing on South Asian migration and resettlement.
- Strong understanding of different concepts of sociology, especially the different notions of home and belonging.
- Strong analytical and excellent scientific writing skills along with well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
MY DOCTORAL STUDY
- Is based on the different kinds of attachments that displaced Sri Lankan Tamils have to their places of origin in post-war days.
- Uses the post-conflict areas of Colombo and rural Jaffna along with Chennai and Trichy to conduct formal and informal interviews following qualitative research methods.
- Interviewing both self-settled displaced persons and those in camps made me capable of working with minimal supervision and under immense tension and pressure.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Communication skills in English, Bengali, and Hindi at the highest level.
- Basic knowledge of German, Tamil and French.
OTHER WORK EXPERIENCES
- Work experiences in a couple of non-profit organizations including UNICEF, USA, and UNWOMEN, Singapore.
- Half a year of experience in a real estate firm in India as a tele-executive.
- Have always shown interest in reaching out to scientific communities and to the broader audience through various activities like organizing seminars and participating in research workshops and radio discussion meetings.
