The Global GLO-JOPE Conference 2024 takes place in person for people on the program on December 4 at UNU-MERIT, Maastricht, The Netherland (online participation is possible upon prior restriction), and online only on December 5-7.
There will be presentations of fresh research in particular on labor, health, population and development issues with
- papers on robots, emerging technologies,
- the Gig economy, and
- the Ukraine.
- With highlights of the Journal of Population Economics (JOPE) papers of 2024 including the presentation of the JOPE 2024 Kuznets Prize.

- The regular GLO Virtual Seminar of December 5 with Eva Sierminska on “Inequality in Economics as a Profession” is also integrated.

The ongoing substantial demographic (aging, immigration), environmental (global warming), and technological changes (robots, artificial intelligence) require intelligent and responsive technical and social innovations to adjust flexibly to challenges and opportunities. UNU-MERIT and GLO researchers provide talent and ambitions to contribute to the solutions. To foster the discussion, the workshop deals with robots, emerging technologies, the Gig economy, Ukraine, and refugee and labor migration challenges.
