Prakashani is a Ph.D. scholar in the Department of Economic Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Economics from Banaras Hindu University, India.

She examines questions around fiscal decentralization, political regimes, women's political representation, gender budgeting, inequality, and health and education outcomes, particularly in the developing countries context.
